Important Information Regarding your 2017 Allegian Choice Coverage

All members currently enrolled in a Allegian Health Plans Exchange plan, also known as a Health Insurance Marketplace plan, have received notification that their coverage will end on 12/31/2016.

While we will no longer offer Exchange plans, we will continue to offer an off-Exchange Gold plan for 2017, currently with the exception of Nacogdoches county. The sections below have additional information that can help you ensure coverage for the new year without interruption.

Please take note that subsidies you may be eligible for do not apply to plans offered off the Exchange/Health Insurance Marketplace. That means any subsidy you may be eligible for will not apply if you enroll in the Allegian Choice off-Exchange Gold plan.

To continue your coverage without interruption

Because your current coverage with Allegian Choice will not continue into next year, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that gives you from 11/1/16 until 3/1/17 to enroll in a new health plan.  Please note that in order to keep your health insurance coverage uninterrupted while you enroll in a new 2017 plan, you will need to enroll by 12/31/16. You may experience a gap in coverage if you do not enroll by 12/31/16.

Take note that if you enroll in a new plan after 12/31/16, you will be required to provide proof of your loss of coverage.


The Health Insurance Marketplace, or healthcare.gov, is your resource to compare options and find a new plan that best meets your needs. We are currently preparing enrollment materials for our off-Exchange Gold plan for the Open Enrollment Period, which begins 11/1/16 and lasts until 1/31/17.

Shopping for new coverage

Update, Compare and Enroll

The best way to prepare for the Open Enrollment Period is to update your Exchange/Health Insurance Marketplace application by 12/15/16, the last day anyone can enroll for coverage that starts on 1/1/17 and avoid a gap in coverage. Review your application and check to see if you qualify for help paying premiums or lower out-of-pocket costs for 2017.

Once you update your application at healthcare.gov you can compare on-Exchange or Health Insurance Marketplace plans in your area and enroll. If you do not pick a plan, a plan may be picked for you. Watch your mail for information on a plan that may have been picked for you. You have the option to enroll in an off-Exchange plan as well, though you will not be able to apply any subsidy to your premium or out-of-pocket costs.

On-Exchange versus Off-Exchange

Although we will not be offering an on-Exchange plan in 2017, we will be offering an off-Exchange plan or plan that is not available on the Marketplace. Information on this plan will be made available during the Open Enrollment Period. Contact us during the Open Enrollment Period to enroll.

This off-Exchange plan is a Gold plan. Please visit healthcare.gov for details on plan classifications (Catastrophic, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum).

Take note: Subsidies do not apply to plans that are not on the Exchange. Therefore, you will not be able to apply any sudsidies you receive to our Off-Exchange Gold plan.
